[ kate's lying on a bed in the first aid centre. she's changed into something loose and comfy. it might be hard to tell if she's awake...

except that her head jerks upward and turns toward her as vi approaches. ]

Vi! You're on your feet again already?

[doublefists]

Yeah, of course. Takes more than a couple of bullets to put me down.

[ reassuring!! her voice is a bit rough but it's okay. she comes over to sit down next to her, carefully. ]

You okay? How are you doing?

[sootprints]

Yes, I'm okay...

[ she'll sit up in the bed, moving slowly and carefully, and propping up a pillow behind her. ]

Artemy helped remove the bullet and treat my injuries. I'll just need some rest.

Did you get treated, too?

[doublefists]

[ her instinct, leftover, is to take kate's hand. she pauses... and then offers her own. ]

Mmhm. Hulkenberg looked me over, and I went and did that machine. [ ... ] I'm glad you're okay. I was worried, you know.

Good. [ she reaches out and takes that hand. ] I'm glad you're okay, too.

[ ... it's a little hard to articulate what's weighing on her mind. ]

[ squeezes her hand. ]

... Yeah. [ a sigh. ] We said yes. Kind of felt like there wasn't another answer.

[sootprints]

We killed them...

I know.

[ a beat, and very carefully, if kate lets her, she'll pull her into a gentle hug. mindful of her injuries. softer, tiredly: ]

Do you wish we didn't?

[sootprints]

[ she can hug. kate will lean into her. a little sooty. ]

I don't know. I'm glad we didn't follow god's plan, if it meant leaving one of us alone...

But even though it all felt right... It had to be wrong, didn't it?

[doublefists]

[ as usual, she doesn't mind the soot. ]

It's... [ hm. she falters here a bit, not sure how to say it. after a moment, though: ]

It probably was wrong. But the thing is, I wouldn't do it different. Because I was never going to leave either of you behind.

[sootprints]

she lifts her chin a little. ]

I see. Right... None of us would.

[ there's a quiet acceptance in that. a bit of warmth. ]
